Former
Congressman Tom Tancredo to Participate in October 14th
CACI Gubernatorial Debate
The CACI Executive Committee on Thursday, September 23rd,
decided that CACI should invite former Congressman Tom Tancredo,
the American Constitution Party candidate, to participate in the
gubernatorial debate at CACI’s 45th Annual Meeting
Luncheon on Thursday, October 14th.
Democratic candidate John Hickenlooper, Mayor of Denver, and
Republican candidate Dan Maes, the Evergreen businessman, had
earlier accepted CACI’s invitation to the luncheon debate.
The CACI Executive Committee discussed a September 17th
editorial by The Denver Post from
September 17, 2010, that urged that the sponsors of the various
gubernatorial debates include Tancredo because he has been
polling strongly. For example, the Post noted that a
Rasmussen Report poll had Tancredo leading Republican Party
candidate Dan Maes 25 percent to 21 percent.
The Post and other major news organizations have set a
ten percent rule: If a candidate is getting at least ten percent
in the major polls, then he or she will be invited to
participate in the debate. The Denver Post/9News debate
is set for the day before the CACI debate.
The Web site for
Real Clear Politics today has an average for
recent polls of Hickenlooper, 46.3 percent; Maes, 20.3 percent;
and Tancredo, 26 percent.
CACI’s 45th Annual Meeting Luncheon will be held from 12 Noon
until 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 14th, in the Grand
Ballroom, Second Level, the Tower Building, at The Sheraton
Denver, 1550 Court Place, Denver. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m.
The moderator of the debate will be Peter O’Connor, Past Chair
of the CACI Board of Directors and
Vice President,
Environment, Law and Government, AngloGold Ashanti N.A.
The Platinum Sponsor of CACI’s 45th Annual Meeting
Luncheon is
AngloGold Ashanti N.A.
The Gold Sponsor is
MillerCoors.
The Silver Sponsors are
Climax Molybdenum; The Boeing Company; Intermountain Rural
Electric Association (IREA); Banner Health; HCA HealthONE;
Pinnacol Assurance; Wells Fargo; Verizon Wireless; McLane
Company, Inc.; and Cinch Jeans & Shirts.

CACI Members Urged to Comment on Health-Exchange Stakeholder
Document
On Wednesday, CACI lobbyists
attended the final health-exchange forum held in Denver, which
focused on the governance structure of the health exchange being
considered in Colorado. The forums have been taking place since
mid-July, and CACI representatives, along with members of
Colorado's business community, have attended all of them.
A
stakeholder document has been drafted, which
consists of comments made at each of the public forums. These
comments were presented by the moderator of the forum as points
agreed upon by those in attendance.
CACI representatives have informed the forum presenters that it
is too early in the process to expect consensus on all points,
and that there is concern that the stakeholder document does not
accurately reflect the opinions of all in attendance. This
concern is based on the announcement by the forum moderator that
the stakeholder document will shape the language of the proposed
2011 legislation.
CACI requested that the final
stakeholder document be presented to all stakeholders--after all
public forums have concluded--in order to provide a reasonable
amount of time for reaction to the document. CACI also
requested that the public forums do not conclude without a final
Denver meeting in order to provide an opportunity for discussion
about feedback that stakeholders around Colorado provide to the
group hosting the forums.
Four remaining meetings around
Colorado have been
scheduled.
CACI representatives will attend these final four meetings. For
more information about health-care reform in Colorado or
information specific to creating a health exchange, please
contact Dan Anglin, CACI Governmental Affairs Representative, at
303.866.9641 or via
e-mail.
Support CACI’s Endorsed State Legislative Candidates
CACI’s list of state legislative candidates, which it has endorsed for election in
November, can be found on the CACI Web site. Since the
legislative session adjourned in early May, CACI has been
working hard to ensure that a “business-friendly” legislature
convenes next January.
The list includes both incumbents and new candidates running for
seats in the Colorado House of Representatives and the Colorado
Senate.
If you live in the district of one of these candidates, or if
your business is located in a candidate’s district, please
consider giving a personal contribution of up to $400 to the
candidate. You can usually locate a candidate’s Web site by
simply Googling the candidate’s name.
In addition, to determine in which Senate and House districts
you reside and work, visit
The Colorado Prosperity Project page on the CACI
Web site.

CACI to Host PTAC Luncheon
Last
November the Colorado Procurement Technology Assistance Center
(“PTAC”) opened and since then has helped Colorado companies
secure $400 million in government contracts. CACI’s mission is
to champion a healthy business climate and we are offering this
luncheon seminar to help our members learn how to do just that.
Tom Elam, Program Director for PTAC Colorado, will meet with
CACI members who want to sell products and services to the
Federal Government. The luncheon will take place October
20, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the CACI offices. RSVP is
required. Please
