CACI Members Invited to Attend Unveiling of Governor’s Jobs Cabinet Report August 24th.

 

Governor Bill Ritter established the Jobs Cabinet as part of his Colorado Promise to transform the way the workforce needs of Colorado business are realized.  The charge was to align economic development and education and provide Colorado businesses the skilled workers, information and resources they need to grow.  The Jobs Cabinet has worked for more than a year engaging business leaders and others across the state.

Nineteen public meetings were held in every corner of the state.

 

As a result of their efforts, the Jobs Cabinet will present the Governor with its recommendations, entitled "The Report to the Governor:  Economic Competitiveness through Collaboration, Talent Development and Innovation."  This report is intended provide a roadmap to helping business keep Colorado working.

 

CACI members are invited to join the Governor's Jobs Cabinet as it issues the report to Governor Ritter on Monday, August 24th, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on the Auraria campus at Tivoli Commons, the outdoor square behind the Tivoli Student Union (in between the Tivoli and the baseball field).  The address is 900 Auraria Parkway, Denver.  Pay parking is available in the Tivoli lot.  Alternatively, free street parking is available around Ninth and Walnut.  Please RSVP by clicking on the following link:

CACI Tours AngloGold Mine at Cripple-Creek Victor with Legislators

 

Yesterday morning, a CACI-organized tour of the AngloGold Ashanti North America, Inc., mine at Cripple Creek-Victor included Representative Bob Gardner (R-Colorado Springs) and Senator Mark Scheffel (R-Parker) and his family.

 

Others who participated included Peter O’Connor, CACI Board Chair and Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel for AngloGold; Marie Patterson, Public Affairs Coordinator, AngloGold; Gayle Berry, G. Berry Corp; and Loren Furman, CACI Vice President of Governmental Affairs.  The highlight of the tour of the mine, which features massive trucks that haul the ore, was an actual “gold pour.”

 

The purpose of the tour was to educate the legislators about the AngloGold mine and how various legislative proposals can affect its operations.

 

 

Colorado’s New Economic Development Leader Pledges to Get Coloradans Working Again

 

In an interview published Tuesday by The Denver Post, Don Marostica said he would focus on improving the state’s business climate and securing new money to fund emerging companies as his strategy for putting the unemployed back to work again.  Marostica indicated that he doesn’t favor traditional recruiting of companies from other states because Colorado lacks the big incentives that other states offer.

 

Marostica told Post reporter Aldo Svaldi that he intends to meet with venture capitalists and corporate executives to discuss economic development issues and strategies.

 

Marostica, a Republican, was serving in the Colorado General Assembly as a State Representative from Loveland when Governor Bill Ritter tapped him to replace Don Elliman as Director of the as the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade when the Governor picked Elliman to be the state’s Chief Operating Officer  For more on the interview, click on:

Colorado Insurance Commissioner Notifies CACI of Hearing on “NCCI Loss Cost Reduction Filing” for Workers’ Comp Insurance on Sept. 17th.

 

The National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) has proposed a decrease of 9.3 percent in workers’ compensation insurance rates, effective January 1, 2010.

 

In an e-mail Tuesday, Marcy Morrison, Colorado Insurance Commissioner, notified CACI President Chuck Berry that a hearing on the NCCI Loss Cost Filing for a reduction of 9.3 percent will take place at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 17th, at the Colorado Division of Insurance, Suite 850, 1560 Broadway, Denver.

At your earliest convenience, please share the information concerning the filing with those members of your organization responsible for monitoring the filing. 

 

Representatives of the NCCI are pleased to make themselves available to further discuss the details of the filing and the data that led the NCCI to reach its conclusion that a -9.3% Loss Cost Reduction is appropriate.

 

Assuming you agree with the conclusions reached by the NCCI, the organization would ask you to consider participation in the hearing process by way of correspondence to the Commissioner of Insurance in support of the filing, attendance at the hearing and consideration of oral testimony.  Contact information for the Division of Insurance is as follows:

Governor’s Energy Office Seeks Applications for “New Energy Economic Development” Grants

 

The Governor’s Energy Office is now accepting applications for the first round of ARRA funded New Energy Economic Development (NEED) Grants.  These grants will provide funding to advance energy efficiency and renewable energy for commercial and industrial projects, including residential applications, throughout Colorado.
