One Week Out: Clarification of
CACI Tour of the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in
Waterton Canyon
We have decided to drop the suggested
contribution to benefit the CACI Educational Foundation for
the tour of the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company facility
southwest of Denver on Saturday, May 20th. We
want to encourage as many people to attend as possible because
this is a rare opportunity for CACI members.
The host of the tour is Rick Malone,
Lockheed Martin Vice President--Mission Success, and a member
of the CACI Board of Directors. The tour also will be a
great opportunity to meet other Colorado business leaders in
an informal setting. The tour is open to CACI members,
their families and friends. Children are welcome for the
tour but need to be at least eight years old.
Please arrive at the Lockheed Martin plant
shortly before 11:00 a.m. to start the tour. The tour will
include the Atlas factory, a bus tour of the 5,500-acre
facility and viewing of the Phoenix space craft, which is the
next planned Mars lander scheduled to launch in 2007.
The tour will include a box lunch and end at about 1:30
p.m.
We will need names and citizenship of all
who will be participating in the tour by May 16, 2006, in
order to plan for lunches and tour logistics. Please
submit names to Rick Malone at (303) 977-4850 no later than
Tuesday, May 16th to reserve your spot in the tour
of this historic aerospace facility located in southern
Jefferson County behind the Hog Back.
To reach the plant, proceed south on
Wadsworth Avenue from C-470. The road ends at the
facility gate. You may park in the parking area to the
right of the gate where we will badge everyone and then
proceed into the facility.
For more information, contact Rick Malone
at (303)977-4850 or Dan Pilcher, CACI Senior Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer, at (303) 866-9600 or via e-mail
at dpilcher@COchamber.com
For those interested in a motorcycle ride
before the tour, contact Dan Pilcher if you have not already
done so. Again, the donation to the CACI Educational
Foundation has been dropped for the motorcycle ride as well as
for the Lockheed Martin tour.

The Legislative Session is Over: the
Political Campaign Season is Gearing Up--and Business Support
for CACI’s PAC is Critical
Why is business support for CACI’s PAC so
important this year? CACI’s ability to lobby the
Colorado General Assembly depends on the election of
pro-business legislators. In both the 2005 and 2006
sessions, CACI worked very hard to defeat anti-business
bills. We’ve been reporting our efforts this session in
detail in The CACI Legislative Update.
There is another significant factor at play
in this year’s state legislative elections: term limits.
Because of term limits, there will be a 25 percent turnover of
incumbent lawmakers. CACI will thus have to educate 25
freshman legislators about business issues. As you can
imagine, this effort will be much easier when the legislators
are pro-business, not anti-business.
CACI’s work on state legislative races also
benefits other business organizations across the state that
look to CACI for its leadership in assessing candidates and
then endorsing and supporting pro-business candidates.
And pro-business legislative candidates will use their CACI
endorsement to seek additional support from other business
organizations.
Consequently, every dollar counts in this
year’s legislative election campaigns. And that’s why
your support of CACI’s PAC is needed right now. If you
have already contributed to CACI’s PAC, we thank you for your
support.
We recently mailed to every CACI member a
letter from CACI Board Chair Al Timothy and CACI Board
Chair-Elect Lucille Mantelli that asks you to contribute to
CACI’s PAC.
Please respond to this letter as soon as
you can and support CACI’s PAC! For the business
community, the stakes could not be higher this November
7th.
